Migrating idea.uz's Bitrix24 Portal from CentOS 7 to CentOS 9 Without Data Loss

We migrated the corporate Bitrix24 portal of idea.uz, an online consumer electronics retailer, from an outdated CentOS 7 to CentOS 9 with a full stack upgrade (PHP, MySQL) and restored platform functionality.

Challenge

The client's Bitrix24 portal was running on CentOS 7, an OS version that had reached end of support, which blocked platform updates. Attempts to update components (PHP, MySQL) to current versions triggered errors specifically during the update process, even though Bitrix24's built-in server configuration check didn't flag any issues. This made the standard admin-panel update flow unusable and required manual intervention at the server level.

Solution
  • Created a full backup of portal files and the database.

  • Provisioned a new server on CentOS 9 and transferred the backup to it.

  • Connected the domain and configured the SSL certificate.

  • Updated PHP and MySQL to versions compatible with both CentOS 9 and the current Bitrix24 release.

  • Only after the server environment was stable did we update the Bitrix24 platform itself.

Result

The portal was migrated to CentOS 9 without data loss, the update-blocking errors were resolved, and the platform was brought up to date. The project took 2 weeks.
